THE BEACHCOMBER CAFE | NEWPORT, CA
To finish our Sunday Funday we decided to go to the Beachcomber Cafe that some other friends told us that we have to go; so we planned to be wowed and we were.
Parking was interesting to saw the least.
The cafe is located at 15 Crystal Cove, Newport Coast, CA 92657
but since it is on the beach you will have to park in the lot across the street and take the shuttle for $1.50 or take the 10-minute walk. After the fact we saw the “Beach Access” tunnel which is a shortcut from the lot to the cafe.

Sign in and take a seat if you can find one.
There was a decent wait time at 3pm of 40 minutes and from what we could see and smell it definitely makes sense why this place is so popular. We were able to find a table at their bar which located on the side of the Beachcomber called the Bootlegger. Want to get a small drink? Not at this place and the size of the mason jars! These drinks were intense and for just under $20 is was a deal. This is their Watermelon Mojito; which was refreshing after a day in the sun. Garnished with a slice of watermelon, sugar cane and plenty of mint and lime it was perfect.

Bloody Mary’s or a meal in a jar?
Their signature Bloody Mary will have you in awe like it did for us. This is what everybody needs on the weekend. Olives, pickles, carrots, green beans and celery to have some snacks while we wait and the bloody mary gets even better with the meaty crab claw and jumbo shrimp added. The drink was mixed perfectly for a great sip each time, The flavoured salt on the rim of the mason jar was a great added touch.
BUZZZZZZZ! Time to get to our table now

Menus in hands and second round of drinks are here already. Being that the BeachComber is right on the beach all the drinks have a tropical flare to them so enjoy!

Crab Cakes anything is one of my favourites and I ordered their Crab Cake Sandwich and I was gone moments later after I took the picture. Great flavour and textures in this sandwich. The crab cake seemed to be made by hand which I prefer and it was full of large chunks of meat. The crispy fried outside mixed well with the avocado. All I can say it was an amazing sandwich.

Do you want a gourmet Tuna Melt? Well you get it here. This Tuna Melt is using Albacore with several other fresh ingredients like red onions and herbs to really bring out the flavour but keep it true to the original dish. The pairing with a cup of fresh clam chowder makes the meal complete.

Move over BLT and make way for The Beachcomber Cafe’s take on this classic sandwich. This take on the classic is using diced Maine Lobster and avocado with the original tomato and lettuce. Another winning factor to this sandwich would be the mango aioli and the smoked bacon to give it a little flavour and detail to make it best all the other BLT’s out there.

An order of the Beachcomber Beignets to share is a great way to end a meal. The light and fluffy pastries that are lightly dusted with powdered sugar. The most dangerous part of the day was not the cliffs or slippery rocks but this dessert if you inhale while eating; just kidding but be careful! To make the dessert even better it was served with warm dark chocolate and vanilla bean ice cream. Mix them how you like and enjoy.

Overall The Beachcomber Cafe at the Crystal Cove is a great place to finish the day at the beach. As we were finishing our meal we watched the sunset to let us know that the Sunday Funday was coming to an end.
I took a lot of pictures along the way and most did not make the cut for the blog but I have them posted on my Flickr “Brian Holt 87” in the Photostream, if you want to check them out.
