FRIED MAC N CHEESE – HOW TO
What makes for a good guilty food pleasure? The answer would be cheese and fried food and that is where this Fried Mac n Cheese dish comes into play.
I have made this twice in a week and tried different ways to see which is the best and easiest way and I’m here to share!
Just to let you know this takes maybe 3 hours to make and complete but it is so worth it. The mac n cheese has to cool before you can work with it.
Ingredients (served 12)
(I what used for the party but you can change it of course)
- 2 box of Kraft Mac n Cheese
- 2 cups of shredded cheese, your choice
- 1 cup of Green Onions
- Spices, paprika, chilli powder, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder.
- Garnish: parsley
- 4 eggs
- Panko breading
As you can see the Mac n Cheese “bars” are chilled and formed into perfect bite-sized treats and ready for the frying. The dark red spices are on the top and not mixed in to give a double taste or cheesy and then spicy. You can mix is the spices if you like.
Breading the Mac n Cheese
There are several ways but I kept it simple and fast since was for a party. Using the whisked eggs to coat the squares on all sides I then covered in the Panko breading. Some frying wants flour added but I wanted more cheese than the crust. Dip, Coat and Prep 4 squares at a time and then into the oil. Complete until done.
Frying Process
You can deep fry if you like, I was successful with a stove top fry and vegetable oil. With about an inch of hot oil, I was able to fry 4 pieces at a time. Cooking until golden brown for about 1-2 minutes then flip over. Taking the fried squares out of the oil make sure not to drop back in a splash and also place on a rack or paper towel to get rid of excess oil. Now you are ready to serve and delight your party guests with an amazing treat!
Tips:
- In the oven at 350 to keep them warm if serving later, warm and crispy on the outside.
- Press the Panko into the nooks and crannies on the Mac n Cheese for a better coating
